About the Club

The British ferret club established in 2000 by Jim Lawley and his partner Fran Lawley-Jenkins with the intention of bringing together people who regard ferrets with respect and affection.  In this regard, the British Ferret Club has been exceptionally successful having a membership that covers a huge area of the British Isles from the South Coast to the Scottish Borders.

This year the club is evolving with more show dates than ever before, a new website and a new committee to help drive things forward. Jim and Fran are still members of the committee, Jim's new title is now Honorary President and Founder Member and Fran has become Honorary Founder and Committee Member. They will continue to act as a guiding hand in the ethos of the club.

Although the Jim and Fran are stepping down from the day-to-day running of the club, they will still be about at some of the shows and Jim will continue to judge when his family commitments allow him.  Dealing with the day-to-day running of the club is Andy Handley Chairman and Show Event Organiser and Zoe Davies Secretary and Treasurer.  Supporting Committee Members are Sam York Show Secretary and Carolyn Claypole Public Relations Officer and Webmaster.

This year we are running a number of shows in various areas including Leicester Cheshire and Yorkshire  to name a few, all shows are qualifiers for the British Ferret Club Grand Final and are open shows, which mean that anybody can enter a ferret into the show you do not have to be a club member.  So come and meet us.

For more details check out our website at http://www.britishferretclub.co.uk/

Keep an eye on the Show events in the Countryman’s Weekly, Ferrets First and www.britishferretclub.co.uk we may have more dates to add on to these.

Membership entitles ferret owners to a twice-yearly newsletter, free entry into the members class at all our shows, membership cards and all the support they need with their ferrets, advice can be given on a vast majority of ferret matter, ferret diets, healthcare problems and suitable housing for ferrets inside and outside the house.  From tips on showing and what judges look for in a well-kept healthy ferret to handling difficult ferrets, claw clipping and ear cleaning.

The British Ferret Club originally formed to raise the profile of ferrets in the public eye and encourage best practice in the keeping of ferrets.  This includes ferret health welfare, nutrition, and breeding, working ferrets, keeping ferrets as pets and using ferrets for pest control.   Our committee and club members have a wealth of experience and knowledge of ferrets and enjoy imparting their knowledge and experience to anybody who is interested or willing to listen.

Several of our club and committee members have experience of breeding and working ferrets and are able to give advice and support in that area.  One of our members support the RSPCA by taking on board ferrets that come into the RSPCA, rehabilitating them if necessary, neutering and re-homing if possible.   We can provide expert nutritional advice if required and have an extensive knowledge of the different health problems and diseases that can adversely affect our beloved ferrets.

See that we are totally committed to our fantastic ferrety friends.

If you have a Vet that you would like to be listed on our website, please send us the details.
